Placed under the authority of an Inspector General, the General Inspectorate of Education is responsible for:
– the development of major pedagogical guidelines and the design of school curricula for nursery and primary education, as well as continuing education programs for teaching staff;
– taking into account the guidelines developed by the Ministry in charge of youth and civic education in terms of civic education in training;
– developing and monitoring the implementation of literacy and non-formal basic education programs and the promotion of national languages;
– monitoring the experimentation and application of educational innovations;
– the design and application of government policy on books and other teaching materials;
– monitoring the initial training of teachers, in conjunction with the Ministry of Secondary Education;
– monitoring and evaluation of educational support staff;
– continuous pedagogical training for teaching staff;
– the organization, coordination, supervision, monitoring and evaluation of educational activities;
– the design of learning assessment tools;
– control and evaluation of the Cameroonian education system, with regard to Basic Education;
– the definition of the student council orientation policy;
– the permanent adaptation of pedagogy to the evolution of science and information and communication technologies;
– relations, in terms of educational research and innovation, with universities, research institutions and training schools;
– research in counseling and psychometrics;
– the Pedagogical Inspectorate responsible for the Promotion of Bilingualism;
– the Pedagogical Inspectorate in charge of Literacy, Non-Formal Basic Education and the Promotion of National Languages;
– the Pedagogical Inspectorate responsible for pre-school education;
– the Pedagogical Inspectorate in charge of Primary Education;
– the Pedagogical Inspectorate in charge of Educational Technologies.
