A joint review of externally funded projects at the Ministry of Basic Education was the topic of discussion wednesday, june 17th, 2025, at Falaise Hotel. These two days, project to operate in plenary and workshop sessions had as objective to gather various financial stakeholders in the Basic Education sub sector so as to track past and current funding, evaluate results, and agree on a consensus roadmap that will enable rigorous accountability for the use of resources.
This august ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Basic Education, Professor Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa. He was flanked by a good number of top-ranking officials in their capacities as institutional, technical, and financial partners of education and civile society organizations. Amongst those present were: the Secretary of State to the Minister of Basic Education, Dr. Asheri Kilo VIvian, the country representative of UNICEF for Cameroon, Mme. Nadine PERRAULT and many others. After two technical presentations by the Director of the Division of Planning, Projects and Cooperations, Mme Elobo Lisette, which revolved on the transformation and resilience of Cameroon’s education system and that of the country representative of UNICEF on the mobilisation of external funding in supporting Cameroon’s educational priorities, the Minister took the floor to declare open this ceremony. In his speech , he expressed satisfaction and profound gratitude on behalf of the government for all that the stakeholders are doing to forster development in general and education, in particular in Cameroon. He was elated by the fact that they had all participated in the efficient maximisation and management of resources that had been fully employed to achieve national priorities. He proceeded in giving a run down of all what the different partners had contributed to forster basic education at the level of preschool development and development of primary education, just to name a few. All these, visible in the vast number of schools constructed and rehabilitated, recruitment and training of teachers, and the creation of school canteens, amongst others.He decried the recent policy of curbing down external financial support by certain countries and called on all the stakeholders, both international, institutional, and local, to collaborate in the reinforcement and management of these resources so as to better the education system in Cameroon.
